Black & White Film

Learn About the Black & White Film

Black and white 35mm film is a type of film that captures images using shades of gray, from deep blacks to bright whites, instead of color. Unlike color film, which uses layers of dyes to record different wavelengths of light, black and white film relies on light sensitivity and silver halide crystals to produce its distinct monochromatic tones. Shooting on black and white film is interesting because it strips away color, focusing more on contrast, texture, and light, which can give images a timeless, artistic feel. For me, it really feels like I can feel that texture in so many of these greyscale pictures. It’s a classic choice.
