I may have been scrounging for sustenance, but I made it work. LG cell phone pictures, digital Sony “Bloggie” camera photos, late 2011.

A handwritten sign taped to a pale green wall reads “Be Happy! Be Happy! Happy Days are Yours. Be Happy!” with that exact capitalization and punctuation. The note is written in dark marker on white paper and mounted on a colorful rounded rectangular backing featuring shiny foil smiley faces in pink, gold, orange, and purple. The top edge of some blue, silver, and green wrapping paper is barely visible above the note. Captured with a basic LG cell phone in fall 2011, the image is slightly soft and unbalanced, but the handwritten positivity and DIY feel come through clearly.
