From Ukrainian Village to Wrigleyville and onwards from there. 2015 was a fast year with unique stresses, but I had a lot of great moments and friends to keep me going. Early spring through late summer, 35mm film.

Katie is sitting in a cozy bedroom, wearing a light pink T-shirt with a printed design. Her short, curly hair frames her face, and she is smiling brightly. In the background, there’s a TV on a wooden table surrounded by small objects, including incense sticks in a glass vase, a red candle, and various personal items, creating a casual and lived-in atmosphere.

katie

Katie in the same bedroom as before, but this time the image is slightly blurry, giving a dynamic and playful feel. She has a humorous expression, sticking her tongue out slightly, adding personality and spontaneity to the shot. The familiar desk with the TV and small objects is visible in the background. Katie is at an outdoor cafe, sipping from a pint glass of cider. She has short, dark curly hair, wears glasses, and is dressed in the same light pink T-shirt. Her eyes glance to the side thoughtfully, while the soft, warm lighting captures a relaxed and inviting mood. Behind her, blurred plants and warm light create a cozy atmosphere. Katie sits outdoors at the same cafe, her short, curly hair and glasses catching the light as she gazes to the side. The warm, ambient lighting highlights her light pink T-shirt and calm demeanor. In the background, bokeh effects from hanging lights and foliage add depth and warmth to the scene. A street view of a classic Chicago Ukrainian Village neighborhood, featuring a central brick building with a small porch and two large windows on the upper floor. The building sits between two other similar apartment structures, showcasing the characteristic brownstone architecture. Street signs indicate the intersection of Haddon and Oakley, while a few parked cars and patches of snow on the ground add seasonal context to the scene.

Diva, a fluffy gray cat, is nestled comfortably in a blanket. The cat's soft fur blends harmoniously with the cozy beige tones of the blanket, and her golden eyes gaze upward, adding an element of curiosity. The setting is warm and intimate, capturing a peaceful moment.

A closer view of Diva, the gray cat, lounging on a soft, beige blanket. Her fur looks plush and well-groomed, and her bright golden eyes stand out against her soft gray coat. The image conveys a sense of tranquility and warmth. Katie is seated in a black cushioned chair in a Wrigleyville home, wearing a gray sweater and smiling warmly. Behind her, the kitchen is slightly blurred, showing an oven and countertop with subtle reflections from kitchen utensils, adding depth and context to the homely setting.

Lauren sits at a dining table in a Wrigleyville house, carefully opening a vintage camera. She has a short bob haircut with straight bangs framing her face. She wears a striking red and black plaid sweater. Behind her, a refrigerator is partially visible with colorful magnets and a pinned paper adding to the cozy domestic vibe. The soft focus and warm tones of the 35mm film highlight her focused expression and delicate features.

Lauren stands on a sunlit Chicago street, her pale complexion glowing in the bright light. She wears a tan coat with a button-up front and a scarf tucked neatly around her neck. Her dark brown hair contrasts sharply with her light skin and the muted beige of her outfit. The background includes shadows cast by buildings and faint figures of pedestrians, adding depth to the vibrant composition captured on film. Lauren poses again on the same street but with a bright smile, her radiant expression adding a playful charm. The photograph features a shift in film color tones, lending a pinkish hue to the image, softening the scene, and creating an almost dreamy effect. The scarf and tan coat remain prominent, contrasting beautifully against the altered color palette. Lauren stands in front of a column near the Belmont CTA sign, partially obscured but recognizable in the background. Her outfit remains the same tan coat and scarf, but the darker tones of her coat pop against the cooler pinkish-purple tones of the image, giving the scene a vibrant yet moody atmosphere. Her confident yet subtle gaze is captivating, highlighting her elegance in this candid moment. A view of the Wrigleyville home during the packing and moving process, with sunlight filtering through large front windows. The room is cluttered with moving boxes, scattered belongings, and a sense of transition. The warm tones of the 35mm film emphasize the homeliness of the space even amidst the chaos. Outside the windows, trees and a parked car are visible, hinting at the neighborhood’s charm.

Another scene from the Wrigleyville house, showing Katie standing in the background, her arms raised as she adjusts her hair. In the foreground, a mirror reflects the photographer (me! Ethan!) taking the shot, adding a layer of complexity to the composition. The room is filled with packing supplies, furniture, and personal belongings, illustrating the busyness of moving day. The film's warm tones soften the otherwise hectic scene.

A group photo taken in front of the large windows in the Wrigleyville home. From left to right, Baer, wearing glasses and a black tank top, smiles warmly; Jerlov stands casually with a relaxed posture in a blue Wolverine shirt; Sophia, the cat, peers out from a carrier, adding a charming touch; Katie, in a white tank top and denim shorts, leans against the carrier, grinning widely. The bright natural light streaming through the windows illuminates their happy expressions and the sense of camaraderie.

A minimalist view of an empty doorway in the Wrigleyville home, leading to an open back door with stairs visible in the background. The neutral beige walls and soft lighting from the doorway create a quiet, introspective mood. The scene captures the end of an era as the house is emptied and prepared for departure. The film’s gentle grain adds a nostalgic touch to the simple yet evocative frame.
