After a tumultuous year, things finally started coming together as spring brought life back to the city. 35mm black and white film, early April 2014.

A grainy black-and-white photograph showing an intersection in Ukrainian Village, West Town, Chicago. The composition includes several vehicles on the road - Damen Ave - with a Subway restaurant visible on the left side in a two-story brick building with decorative diamond patterns. In the distance, a pointed building with architectural details rises above the urban landscape. To the right, a 66 bus is seen mid-turn, and pedestrians walk along the sidewalks. The photo was taken on Black & White 35mm film, with a noticeable grain texture adding character. A grainy black-and-white photograph of a quiet street in Ukrainian Village, Chicago. Parked cars line both sides of the street, and partially-leafless trees arch overhead, creating a canopy effect. A stop sign is visible at an intersection further down the road, surrounded by modest two-story residential buildings with brick facades. The photo captures the serene neighborhood feel with high detail in the shadows and texture from the Black & White 35mm film. Another black-and-white photograph of a street view in Ukrainian Village, Chicago. The perspective shifts slightly, showing more parked cars and the same tree-lined street. The buildings on either side feature classic Chicago-style architecture, including brickwork and small front yards. The grainy film adds a nostalgic touch to the urban scene, emphasizing the symmetry and alignment of the trees and homes. A grainy black-and-white photo of the exterior of a church in Ukrainian Village, Chicago. The composition highlights the steep railings leading up to the church's entrance, which features a detailed stone facade with architectural accents. The sidewalk stretches out toward the horizon, lined with fences and mature trees. A distant pedestrian adds a sense of scale and activity to the serene urban environment. A striking black-and-white photograph of Ascension Saint Mary Hospital in Ukrainian Village, Chicago. The building's distinct Brutalist architecture is prominently featured, with vertical columns and massive vents protruding from its sides. The grain from the Black & White 35mm film emphasizes the texture and industrial feel of the hospital's exterior, contrasting sharply with the surrounding structures. A black-and-white photograph taken from a second-story living room window in Ukrainian Village, Chicago. The focus is on a large tree trunk splitting into two thick branches, with textured bark and a small cluster of foliage near the fork. In the background, part of a residential building is visible, with multi-pane windows partially obscured by the tree. The grainy texture from the film creates a timeless atmosphere.

A full-length black-and-white photograph of Lauren standing in my Oakley Blvd living room. Her hair is dyed half blonde and half dark, with the division visible in her bangs. She wears glasses, a light-colored button-up shirt, and a flowy skirt. Lauren’s stance appears casual, with her arms slightly outstretched. The bright natural light illuminates the scene, and the film grain adds texture to the image.

A black-and-white portrait of myself (Ethan), standing indoors, wearing a neatly striped button-up shirt. I have a full beard and I'm smiling warmly while holding a Samuel Adams beer bottle in my right hand. The background is softly blurred, suggesting an interior space with neutral tones (my living room). The photo has a grainy texture, consistent with black-and-white 35mm film. This image was taken by Lauren.

A second portrait of myself (Ethan), captured in the same indoor setting, again wearing the striped button-up shirt. My expression is more subdued, with a calm and friendly smile. This time, my hands are not holding anything, since they're out of frame. The black-and-white 35mm film grain adds to the timeless aesthetic. This photo was also taken by Lauren. A candid photo of Lauren in my bedroom. She is smiling slightly, wearing glasses and a button-up shirt, with her distinctive half-blonde, half-dark hair pulled back. The background includes a bed with visible pillows and a couple of decorative tapestries hanging on the wall. The soft focus and grainy quality of the black-and-white film give the image a nostalgic feel. Another shot of Lauren in my bedroom, similar to the previous image but with a sharper focus. Her expression now features a more confident and sly smile. The details in the background, including the bed and tapestries, are slightly clearer. The black-and-white film grain complements her ethereal presence.

Katie, sitting in my bedroom, captured in a candid black-and-white photograph. She wears a black T-shirt featuring a cupcake and crossbones design with a Union Jack pattern. A pillow with "TONIGHT" (upside-down and partially cropped) is visible to the right, with its reverse side reading "NOT TONIGHT" (though this isn't pictured). Behind her, a beer brewing kit box is positioned prominently, with a TV and a glass jar filled with incense sticks on the left. The image is grainy, enhancing the film's analog charm.

A grainy black-and-white photograph featuring a fence blurred in the foreground, a prominent tree with rough bark, and an abandoned lot in West Town, Chicago. The lot is cluttered with debris, including visible trash piles, and the backs of modern residential buildings form the background. The stark contrast between the rough textures of the tree and fence and the sleek lines of the buildings highlights the layers of urban development. A house façade with the number "2613" displayed near the entrance. The structure has a worn stone exterior, with thin, leafless vines spread across its surface. A diamond-shaped stone detail is embedded in the center of the house, just below the attic window, adding architectural interest. Rectangular windows and a main entrance with glass panes are visible. Sparse branches from nearby trees partially frame the house. The interior of a furniture and fine goods store featuring a geometric circular shelf made of metal tubing. The shelf is laden with various items, including glassware, small decorative pots, books, and other display objects. Behind the shelf, circular tables with chairs can be seen, and large glass windows let in natural light. Outside, parked cars are faintly visible through the windows. A view through a blurry chain-link fence of an abandoned lot in West Town. The lot is unkempt, with a large tree standing in its center. Several brick buildings are visible in the background, along with smaller structures and fencing. The area appears unused, with scattered debris visible on the ground. A black-and-white photo of Katie seated outdoors at a coffee shop. She wears the same black T-shirt under a stylish white and black jacket. A disposable coffee cup and a camera are visible on the table in front of her. Behind Katie, a metal fence and several out-of-focus people are discernible. The grainy texture of the film adds a classic aesthetic to the cheerful and candid moment. A rectangular building in West Town with a distinct pattern of alternating light and dark horizontal color sections across its façade. The building's windows are long and narrow, set in a modern design, contrasting sharply with the surrounding neighborhood. A chain-link fence partially obscures the lower part of the building. A close-up of a brick wall with glass-block windows. The white bricks feature a large mural of a monarch butterfly, with intricate details of the wings. However, the mural fades toward the bottom, blending into the white bricks, as though it has been partially painted over or weathered. Sparse tree branches are visible in the foreground. A view down a sidewalk in Ukrainian Village. The foreground includes cars parked along the street, trees without leaves, and wrought iron fences bordering residential buildings. In the distance, a church spire rises above the tree line, adding a focal point to the photo. The overall composition emphasizes symmetry, with the sidewalk leading the viewer's eye. A similar view to the previous image but with a darker exposure and higher contrast. Shadows are more pronounced, particularly in the details of the parked cars, fences, and trees. The church spire remains visible in the background, while the texture of the sidewalk and surrounding buildings is more defined due to the contrast. A lone pedestrian can be seen walking down the sidewalk.
